Administration Report

The Administration Information Dialog contains information necessary for the operation of AMVER SEAS 2000. The National Weather Service requires this information for accurate interpretation of the AMVER SEAS data. The Administration data registers the ship in the AMVER/SEAS data base that is used to translate ship's call sign to ship name and to add other fields to AMVER messages generate by the AMVER/SEAS message processing system.

The AMVER/SEAS program will not operate unless the Administration Report is completed and saved. The Administration information is used by other programs in AMVER and by the SEAS met observation program. There are five required fields that must be filled in to exit the screen. The fields present for entry are dependent on the hardware and software selected, decisions that are made when the installation was configured. The information on the Administrative screen is used in all of the different modules that comprise the AMVER/SEAS software package and is stored in the AmverSeas\Source\AmverSeas\Administration\Admin.Txt file and is also copied to the archive data. The information should be kept up-to-date and it is suggested that it be reviewed at the start of each cruise and ownership changes.

Definitions:

Mandatory Data - In order to operate AMVER SEAS 2000 the mandatory data must be filled out. Below are the definition of the mandatory data.

Call Sign - The ships radio call sign. Used to identify the ship from which the data is transmitted

Company Name - The Name of the company that manages the ship. Facilitates communication with ship

Maximum Speed - This is the maximum speed that the ship is capable of reaching. Used for error checking of input ship speeds.

IMO Number - The International Maritime Organization Number (Lloyd's number). Ships official identification number. Used to assist in tracking ship's data.

INMARSAT-C Mobile ID - INMARSAT Standard C identification number. Provides us a way to contact ship if problems arise.

Medical Staff - Describes the type of medical staff that are on board the ship. In the Administration report it should reflect the medical resources the ship normally has available. In case of emergency informs the Coast Guard Amver of medical capabilities. In the other rports it should refelect what is available at that time.

Other Administration data - This data though not mandatory should be filled out as well.

Anemometer Height - Height of anemometer (wind speed and direction) above sea surface.

Anemometer Method - The method used determine wind speed and direction.

Barometer Height - Height of barometer above sea surface.

Emergency Watch (GMDSS) INMARSAT- C Mobile ID - Emergency INMARSAT C number. Used for emergencies only. This field is number of the INMARSAT-C transceiver monitored by the ship as part GDMSS if different from the one used to transmit AMVER/SEAS reports. It this field is left blank the INMARSAT-C Mobile ID will be included on reports. If it is filled in this number will be used on AMVER reports as a contact number.

Forward - Used for forwarding Amver Information to other programs.
This field is included in the ADMIN report and the setting is recorded in the AMVER/SEAS data base and is used to route AMVER position created automatically from meteorological reports sent to Telenor Satellite Services. At the present time all reports pass through AMVER center so the AMVER field should be flagged. The AMVER center receives the reports if AMVER is not flagged. Ships wishing AMVER to route position created automatically from reports to MARAD must flag MARAD. Ships operating in the JASREP area at any i.e. NorthEast of the point 17N 165E, should flag JASREP. When JASREP is flagged, reports sent or created automatically are not forwarded to JASREP unless they are in JASREP area and Sail Plans, Deviation Arrival reports are not forwarded to unless a port in the report or the position are in the JASREP area.

INMARSAT - A Number - Used for communicating with voice or fax.

Sail Plan Default Navigation Method - RL Rhumline, CO coastal, GC great circle. Navigational method used to calculate distances. Default is used for initial Sail Plan entry.

Ship Name - The name of the ship.

Sea Surface Temperature Depth - Average depth of temperature sensor below sea surface

Sea Surface Temperature Type - Type of sensor used to acquire sea surface temperature.

Thermometer Height - Height of the air thermometer above the sea surface.

Wet Bulb Temperature Method - The method used to determine Wet Bulb.

VOSCLIM - Voluntary Observing Ships (VOS) Climatology Subset Project (VOSCLIM). Used to collect a climatalogical data subset. Box should be checked if you are participating.

Dialog Operation:

Dialog Access - In order to create or edit an Administration Report, select 'Setup' and then 'Administration' from the AMVER/SEAS menu. Clicking the button on the AMVER SEAS main menu also opens the report.

Data Entry - Input the data into the edit boxes. For the pull down menu boxes select the right hand arrow key with the mouse. Then select one of the options that are displayed. For the Medical Staff and Forwarding check on the appropriate boxes. Check none for the Medical Staff if no medical staff are onboard. Check the VOSCLIM box if the ship is participating .

Data Transmission - Once the administration screen is filled out then the data is saved in binary on a floppy for transmission. From the menu select 'Transmit'|'Save Binary' to save the data in binary format or alternatively click on the 'Save Binary for Transmit'. The transmitted file name is Admin.bin. This converts the data to binary for transmission on the Standard - C unit for distribution to the Global Ocean Observing System (GOOS) center. In order to transmit the file, remove the diskette that it was saved on, carry it to the Standard C transceiver and insert it. Follow the setup instructions applicable to your brand of Standard C transceiver and then transmit the file.

Menu Operation:

File:

Print - Prints the administration information.
Cancel - Cancels all changes and returns user to AMVER SEAS main screen.

Transmit:
