Deviation Report

A Deviation Report provides AMVER with any changes from the original Sail Plan. Deviation Reports should be sent as soon as any voyage information changes which could affect AMVER's ability to accurately predict the vessel's position. It is CRITICAL to report any changes in course or speed due to change in destination or other deviation from the original Sail Plan, as soon as possible. Failure to do so may result in the elimination of the ship as a valid AMVER resource.

Definitions:

The Sail Plan information should be viewed for term definitions.

Dialog Operations:

Dialog Access - In order to create or edit an Deviation Report, select 'AMVER' and then 'Deviation Report' from the AMVER/SEAS menu. Clicking the button on the AMVER SEAS main menu also opens the report.

Entering Current Position Information - The Current Sail plan is displayed in the list boxes. Enter the current ship position information in the 'Enter Current Position' Dialog. Select navigation calculation type. Enter ship speed (if not calculated) and position data. Enter date and time of way point. The deviation way point must now be correctly positioned within the existing way points. Find the existing way point with the time that is closest to but after current time. Enter that way point number in the 'Number' edit box on the 'Enter Current Position' dialog. Select ' Insert Before'. If the destination happens to be the point that is closest to but after current time, select the 'Append' radio button instead. Click on 'OK' This inserts deviation way point into Deviation Report and returns user to the 'Deviation Report' dialog.

Editing Deviation Report - If necessary, edit the Deviation Report same as the Sail Plan except that all points prior to currently input deviation point are not editable.

Data Transmission - Once the Deviation Report is filled out, the data is saved in binary for transmission. From the menu select 'Transmit'|'Save Binary' to save the data in binary format or alternatively click on the 'Save Binary for Transmit'. The transmitted file name is DR.bin. This converts the data to binary for transmission on the Standard - C unit for distribution to the Coast Guard. Data can also be saved in ASCII by selecting 'Transmit'|'Save ASCII' from the menu.
